 This time last year, Nicole Garcia was skiing the slopes in her hometown of Park City, Utah and finishing up her education at Brigham Young University. One year later and settled in the Washington, D.C. area, Garcia is fulfilling her life-long dream of cake decorating.  Although she earned a degree in advertising, Garcia’s creative eye has always been poised for the flair and imagination for cake decorating, which led her to Occasionally Cake of Alexandria, Va. City Square Cafe of Old Town Manassas is hosting a Thanksgiving Day raffle to benefit SERVE, a Prince William County non-profit that distributes food and provides assistance to homeless local families. From Oct. 15 through Nov. 15, patrons can bring in non-perishable or canned goods, and enter a raffle to win a Thanksgiving Day dinner to-go for eight, prepared by City Square Café. Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro now offers a pintxo menu – a collection of tasty one-bite-wonders designed with the concept of variety at an affordable cost in mind.  Priced at only $1 each, these amazing “tastes” can be ordered as a starter to a full meal, or a bunch to share with friends while enjoying Vinifera’s vast selection of 300+ wines, available by half pour, full glass or flights of three. 

 

Pintxo, a traditional cuisine in the Basque region of Spain, is a take on the Spanish word pincho, or “to pierce.”  Executive Chef Bo Palker has created his own variation of this fare using the fresh herbs and vegetables grown in his garden on-site at the restaurant.  The Mediterranean-influenced items, served on skewers, include:
