Nature's Plenty of Kids

From the Reston Association:

Acorns, walnuts and hickory nuts are plentiful in the fall. Go on a seed search and look for animals busily preparing their winter stash. Make a seed craft and taste a yummy fall treat.  The date is Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010 from 10 – 11 a.m.  The event will be at the Walker Nature Education Center – 11450 Glade Drive.  Make your reservations by Nov. 15, 2010.  The cost is $5/child RA members, $8/child non-members.  The event is for ages three to five and kids must be accompanied by an adult. Help Fight Hunger in the Community

The 2010 Reston Community Center Thanksgiving Food Drive to Benefit Reston Interfaith has begun. The food drive began on November 1 and will run through November 23. A volunteer event will be held on Thanksgiving Day from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Reston Community Center Hunter Woods. Here you can find a list of non-perishable items needed and drop-off points.


Firefighters Help Bring New Winter Coats to Kids

From Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department:

Fairfax County firefighters, in cooperation with the Coats for Kids Foundation, Progressive Firefighters of Fairfax County, Inc., and the Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics, will collect and distribute new winter coats for children and youths through high school age, Thursday, October 28, 2010, 11 a.m., at Penn Daw Fire and Rescue Station 11, 6624 Hulvey Terrace, Alexandria, Virginia.

Through generous support and donations from organizations and businesses, it is anticipated that approximately 1,000 youths and their families will benefit. This is the fifth year firefighters and the department have sponsored this community event.
