Make Your Home Safe: Get Tips from Building Inspectors May 7-8

From Fairfax County:

In honor of International Building Safety Month, residents can get free advice from building inspectors and engineers on how to make their homes safe.

On May 7-8, building safety experts from Fairfax County and six other Northern Virginia governments will be at these four Home Depot stores from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • 6201 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church (Seven Corners)
  • 3201 Old Lee Highway, Fairfax (Fairfax Circle)
  • 1651 Reston Parkway, Reston
  • 400 South Pickett Street, Alexandria

Homeowners can ask building code and safety questions at booths located at store entrances. Building equipment and safety appliances will be displayed, such as carbon monoxide alarms, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and radon test kits. Information about building safety and the permit process information also will be available.

Booths will be jointly staffed by engineers and inspectors from Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, Fairfax City, Alexandria, Falls Church and Herndon.

May is International Building Safety Month, which focuses public attention on the importance of the building code and the role of code enforcement professionals.

Building codes protect people and property because they ensure that buildings are properly constructed and safe.
