Ebrahim Rasool, Former Ambassador to the U.S. from South Africa to Speak at BASIS Independent McLean

Ebrahim Rasool, former Ambassador to the U.S. from South Africa, will be speaking at BASIS Independent McLean about “Nelson Mandela’s Lessons for Thought Leadership for the Next Generation” on Wed., Nov. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 8000 Jones Branch Road in McLean, Va. Entrance is free and open to the public, but registration is requested at www.mclean.basisindependent.com/ambassador

“We’re honored to have former Ambassador Rasool share his knowledge and experience with us,” said Sean Aiken, head of school for BASIS Independent McLean, McLean, Va. “BASIS.ed is committed to global education and to preparing students for the complexities of the 21st century political and economic landscape,” said Aiken.

Rasool is currently a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School for Foreign Service in Washington, D.C., and this is one of his last engagements before returning to South Africa. He has spent his life advancing peace and prosperity within socially fragmented communities. He works in the Al Waleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, advancing an alternative paradigm to the inertia of Orthodoxies in the face of Extremisms. He is also the founder of the World for All Foundation that endeavors to create a world of coexistence and that is safe for difference.

Having seen and experienced the bitterness and horrors of Apartheid in South Africa, Rasool knows what it takes to rise above hostility and turmoil and effect positive change. From working with former President Nelson Mandela to living through the pain exposed by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Rasool has a powerful message and lessons to pass on to the current and next generation of thought leaders.
