In 2011, Loudoun County Public Schools Will Resume Before Labor Day

Yesterday, the Loudoun County School Board adopted a 2011-2012 calendar that provides for Loudoun County Public Schools to begin the week before Labor Day.

In September, Dr. Ed Hatrick, Superintendent for Loudoun County Public Schools, told School Board members that he intended to open schools before Labor Day for the 2011-2012 school year. And after seeking parent, student, and staff input, the School Board voted unanimously to adopt a new calendar. As a result, students will begin the new school year on August 28, 2011, and conclude the school year on June 8, 2012. They will have typical Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks.

Tysons Corner Traffic Changes

TYSONS CORNER, Va. (WUSA) -- Lanes on 495 north will shift Wednesday for bridge demolition slated for this weekend which will force shut down of Route 123.

VDOT says demolition is not scheduled to shut down Route 123 past this weekend.

The new traffic pattern will allow road workers access the "hot lanes" on 495 for this project.

A VDOT spokesperson says the headaches will be worth it because the road work will allow a simpler route in the future.

This particular road project is scheduled for two years according to VDOT.
