No Swimming for Reston Triathletes

From the Reston Association:

There will not be a swim portion to this year’s Reston Triathlon due to the conditions in LakeAudubon.  Citing the safety of participants, the Reston Triathlon Board announced on Friday the race would be a duathlon – run, bike, and run.

Larry Butler, Reston Association’s Director of Parks and Recreation said heavy rains have dumped debris into the lake. “We are also concerned about the general water quality after all the rain and the safety of our participants is first and foremost.”

The Reston Triathlon, which has been held since 1984, is scheduled for this Sunday, September 11, beginning at 7 a.m. The race will now start and finish at South Lakes High School.
