Hunter Mill Road Near Reston Closing at Night Oct. 11-15; Detour Planned

From the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project:

Drivers who use Hunter Mill Road near Reston will experience significant delays on or about Oct. 11-15, when the road will be closed at the Dulles Toll Road between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting.

Drivers going south on Hunter Mill Road will need to detour by turning right on to Sunset Hills Road, left on Wiehle Avenue, then left on to Sunrise Valley Drive to reconnect with Hunter Mill Road south.

If traveling north on Hunter Mill Road, drivers should use the reverse of the southbound detour. They will be directed to turn right on Sunrise Valley Drive, right on Wiehle Avenue, then right on Sunset Hills Road to access northbound Hunter Mill Road.

The closing is necessary for safety reasons while steel is erected on a new bridge that will carry tracks for the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project in the median of the Dulles Toll Road over Hunter Mill Road.

Expect Road Delays Due to Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project

Beginning on August 4 the eastbound lanes of the Dulles Connector Road, Route 267, will be closed for 3 nights starting at 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. The construction will be impacting drivers using the eastbound Dulles Toll Road and the Dulles Airport Access Highway. Drivers will be required to detour onto the southbound I-495 Capital Beltway and exit on to northbound Route 123 toward McClean and then rejoin the eastbound Dulles Connecter Road from northbound Route 123.

While the initial construction has set times of closure, there will be more periodic closures over the next few weeks as required. However, the detour will remain the same.
