Reston Artist Takes a Leap of Faith By Making His Passion a Full-Time Job

A Super NoVA is a person with a unique talent or business that makes them stand out in the crowd of Northern Virginia. Rodger Schultz of Reston is this week’s Super NoVA. He is recognized for his artistic talent and for living out his dream as a full-time painter.

Schultz, who majored in graphic design, quit his full-time job at AOL two years ago when he decided to focus on what he loves most: painting. What started off as studio nights on the weekends, turned into daily painting sessions from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on a consistent basis.

While impressionism is his favorite style, his work is all across the board including contemporary, modern, sketches, and my personal favorite, JPOP or “Jackson Pollock on Prozac.

“Making me paint the same way everyday would be the same thing as making a vegetarian suck ground beef out of a straw,” laughed Schultz.
