FCPS and Fairfax Chamber to Launch New Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools

From Fairfax County Public Schools:

The new Foundation for Fairfax County Public Schools will be launched at a news conference on Tuesday, January 4, at 8 a.m. at the Gatehouse Administration Center.

            A partnership of the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the foundation will be a flexible vehicle for the community to invest in its future through education.  The foundation will be able to support initiatives that help students acquire 21st century skills, advance the diverse needs of the community, and contribute to the creation of a world-class workforce.

University of Phoenix to Launch Nursing Program in Northern Virginia

RESTON, Va.–To help meet the ever growing demand for competent nurses in Virginia, University of Phoenix today announced that its Northern Virginia Campus will offer registered nurses the opportunity to complete their education with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing beginning in early 2011.  Based in Reston, Virginia, University of Phoenix’s Northern Virginia Campus is the first campus in the Northeast to offer the two-year completion program in the classroom as well as online.

In 2011, Loudoun County Public Schools Will Resume Before Labor Day

Yesterday, the Loudoun County School Board adopted a 2011-2012 calendar that provides for Loudoun County Public Schools to begin the week before Labor Day.

In September, Dr. Ed Hatrick, Superintendent for Loudoun County Public Schools, told School Board members that he intended to open schools before Labor Day for the 2011-2012 school year. And after seeking parent, student, and staff input, the School Board voted unanimously to adopt a new calendar. As a result, students will begin the new school year on August 28, 2011, and conclude the school year on June 8, 2012. They will have typical Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks.
