23 New Americans to be Naturalized at the Reston Multicultural Festival

The following was sent to us by the Reston Community Center:

In partnership with The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the 10th Annual Reston Multicultural Festival will include a special naturalization ceremony.  Washington District Director Sarah Taylor will administer the Oath of Allegiance to America’s newest citizens at the Reston Multicultural Festival on September 25.

The ceremony is part of the Reston Community Center’s annual celebration of the diversity and welcoming community spirit that is found in Reston. Hunter Mill District Supervisor Cathy Hudgins will provide keynote remarks and welcome the new citizens during the event.

The 23 citizenship candidates originate from the following 19 countries: China, Cuba, Egypt, El Salvador, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Turkey and Vietnam.

Reston Town Center to Host Fall Denim Celebration at GAP

Tomorrow marks the first official day of fall! This means it's time to bring out that fall wardrobe you have hidden away in your closet, and maybe even make some fashionable additions to it. This weekend is the Fall Denim Celebration at Gap in Reston Town Center. Come out September 23 through September 26 to enjoy live music, drawings for Gap gift cards, and 25% off all full priced merchandise (excluding 1969 Demin) when you bring your Gap Reston Facebook coupon. There will also be opportunities to get samples and coupons from local restaurants and special offers and coupons for other local businesses, so you don't want to miss this! 

Dulles Metro Rail Public Discussions

Tonight, September 13, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. a public meeting will be held for community members to discuss the second phase of the Metrorail extension to Dulles International Airport. The meeting tonight will be held at the Sheraton Reston, which is located at 11810 Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston, VA. A second hearing will be held tomorrow, September 14, at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum in Sterling, VA. Both of these public hearings are being hosted by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Discussions about the future Metro rail stations will be open house-style.

Reston Community Yard Sale Coming Soon

The Reston Community Yard Sale will take place on Saturday, September 11 at 1930 Isaac Newton Square. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. About 100 different families will be selling items at this event, so it is a great opportunity to find a variety of items! You can sign up to have your own booth for $23 if you are a Reston Association member or $29 for non-members. Or just stop by for some great steals!

Forecast Shows Home and Job Expansion for Reston

According to a study and forecast by the George Mason University Center for Regional Analysis, the number of homes and jobs in Reston will see rapid growth in the future. According to the forecast, the number of homes in Reston will more than triple by 2050; job growth will also boom.

The study points to factors such as the extension of the Metro service which is expected to service Wiehle Avenue in Reston by 2013. The Metro expansion also includes extension to Tyson’s Corner, Herndon, Dulles Airport, and finally, Ashburn.

Reston's Very Own Restaurant Week

Get Registered for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

The 2010 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is being held September 18 through September 29. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 1! To be eligible you must be 50 years old by December 31, 2010 and live in a sponsoring jurisdiction, which include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church. $10 includes one event and the following events are open:

Track & field, team line dance, racquetball, ten pin bowling, eight ball pool, Wii bowling, bocce, tennis, table tennis, fencing, golf, shuffleboard, chess, miniature golf, bunco, horseshoes, softball hit & throw, backgammon, scrabble, cribbage, yo-yo tricks, duplicate bridge, swimming, diving, pickleball, men’s basketball,  men’s and women’s free throw basketball
