FX CO park board weighs rules to limit 'walk-ons' on county fields

FX CO park board weighs rules to limit 'walk-ons' on county fields
New rules under consideration by the Fairfax County Park Authority Board would severely curtail the use of parks for casual, pick-up games of soccer and other sports.

Under current policy, if a field is not in use by a group that reserved it in advance, a “walk-on” group, with up to 40 participants (including spectators), can use it. The proposed rule would cut that number in half.

All county parks would be affected, including Mason District Park, Annandale Community Park, and Roundtree Park in the Annandale area.

From Loudoun County -- The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has taken action on several fronts in its continued opposition to the decision of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Board of Directors in favor of an underground alignment for the proposed Metrorail station at Dulles International Airport.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Board of Supervisors directed the County Administrator to seek additional information from MWAA and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority regarding the potential impacts on Dulles Metrorail, the operations at Dulles Airport, and any possible extension further into Loudoun County should the Board vote to opt out of the funding agreement for Phase 2 of the project.

Renovation Closes Pool for Season

Renovation Closes Pool for Season

From the Reston Association:

RESTON, Va. –This season, there will be one less pool to enjoy while Dogwood Pool undergoes a major facelift.  To save an estimated $10,000 in additional costs to open the 32-year-old facility for just one season, the Reston Association Board of Directors voted to start the renovations as soon as plans are approved.

The improvements to the existing 20-meter pool include a new water basin with a zero depth entry, in-water bench seating, three 25-meter lap lanes and a diving well.  There are also upgrades to the bathhouse to modify it for accessibility, a new picnic pavilion and water spray and play area.  The pool is expected to re-open in the 2012 season.
