The Real-Life Rudy Appears at Local Movie Premier

The Real-Life Rudy Appears at Local Movie Premier

Last night was the world movie premier of The Mighty Macs, an inspiring and true sports story, at the Bow Tie Cinemas at Reston Town Center.

Rudy Ruettiger, motivational speaker and former football player for the University of Notre Dame, was there to speak on the importance of pursuing dreams.  Ruettiger, who is best known as the inspiration for the motion picture, Rudy, decided to support the movie The Mighty Macs because he loves what it represents.

“It is not an easy thing to tell your own story,” said Ruettinger, who spent ten years in Hollywood trying to get his story on the big screen before someone finally listened.

Parks Seek Volunteers to Restore Habitat During VolunteerFest

From Fairfax County Park Authority:

The Invasive Management Area (IMA) program is participating in Volunteer Fairfax’s VolunteerFest® on October 22, 2011, which coincides with the National Day of Service.  Conveniently located IMA sites are holding events this year for volunteers to help restore native habitat in parks. Pulling invasive weeds and planting native species benefits local communities and is a great way to socialize with friends and neighbors. To register as a volunteer at an IMA site, call IMA Coordinator Erin Stockschlaeder at 703-324-8681, or send her an email at Erin.Stockschlaeder@fairfaxcounty.gov.

Become a Member of the Design Team For Two Skateparks

From Fairfax County Park Authority:

The Fairfax County Park Authority will hold two Design Review Meetings in order to gain public input into the planning of a new skatepark at Lake Fairfax Park and the expansion of Wakefield Skatepark located next to the Audrey Moore RECenter. The public is invited to both meetings for a chance to share concepts and suggestions.  Earlier this summer we gathered initial input.  You told us what you thought and what you wanted to see.  Now it’s time to make sure we got it right!

Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Audrey Moore RECenter. Join Park Authority staff and the experts from Spohn Ranch for a chance to design the addition at Wakefield Skatepark.  Audrey Moore RECenter is located at 8100 Braddock Road in Annandale.
