Did you know?

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 3.5 million cases of skin cancer—affecting over 2 million people—are diagnosed annually.

  1. Each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon.
  2. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime.
  3. Over the past 31 years, more people have had skin cancer than all other cancers combined.

With those alarming numbers, we still find people baking in the sun and using indoor tanning beds. We are all searching for the fountain of youth and if one wants to change their look in an instant without needles, knives, sun damage or even a doctor’s visit, sunless tanning is the answer.

Sunless tanning has come a long way in the last 20 yrs. In less than 8 minutes, you can contour your body, add a glow that is not even close to the orange color from back in the day. It’s a practical alternative to sunbathing with almost no down time. There is no need to expose your skin to the sun's damaging rays, and with sunless tanning products you won’t miss out on that summer glow. We all know that baking our skin in tanning beds is like playing Russian roulette with skin cancer, and tanning beds are also shown to increase wrinkles and brown spots.

So why do it? Especially when there are safe alternatives out there.

Let’s start by understanding how sunless tanning products work—sunless tanning products, also called self-tanners, give your skin a tanned look without exposing it to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Sunless tanning products are commonly sold as creams, gels, lotions, and sprays, which you apply to your own skin.

Professionals like SkinnyTan are experts on airbrushing you with customized formulas. The active ingredient in most sunless tanning products is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). When applied to the skin, DHA reacts with dead cells in the outermost layer of skin to temporarily darken the skin's appearance. The coloring doesn't wash off, but it gradually fades as the dead skin cells slough off, typically within a few days. SkinnyTan offers odorless, warm, customized tanning solutions that are revolutionary. And once you try it, you'll never go back to your old way of tanning.

So why should you choose sunless tanning over tanning beds? Well, for starters, sunless tanning is simply that . . . SUNLESS. New research from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has determined that tanning beds are even more dangerous than previously thought. The IARC has moved tanning beds from “probably carcinogenic to humans” to the highest cancer risk category, calling them “carcinogenic to humans.” They will join other Group 1 hazards including cigarettes, asbestos, and arsenic.

This past June, scientists from several different countries met to analyze 20 studies that linked tanning beds and skin cancer. After examining the data, the IARC has found tanning beds can increase the risk of developing skin cancer by 75%, especially if use begins before the age of 30. The IARC also discovered evidence that links tanning beds with melanoma of the eye.

So why not you? The Hollywood set wouldn't dream of heading out without flawless color. Nor should you.

Professional spray tanner are always at your ready. All skin types look great with that sun kissed look, so it’s just like getting your nails done, but with greater impact to your appearance. In fact, sunless tanning is a fast fix to many body issues. The benefits range from looking healthier and thinner, to hiding acne and acne scars, to significantly reducing the appearance of cellulite. SkinnyTan legs look more toned and bulging veins are camouflaged by the color.

I love the feeling of the beach and the sun on my skin just as much as the next guy, but I will not let it kill me.

Finally, please remember that most sunless tanning products do not contain sunscreen. So if you spend time outdoors, remember to use sunscreen.
