Hunter Mill District Community Softball Game

The Hunter Mill District Supervisor’s Office is hosting the 4th Annual Community Softball Game on August 18 at South Lakes High School. The game will be between the WPGC-FM 95.5 players and the Road Dawgs from the Reston District Police Station.

Don’t miss out on the cookout before the game at 5:00 p.m. The game will be played at 6:00 p.m. on the varsity baseball field and WPGC is planning on broadcasting live from the field. The free event is sponsored by the Reston District Police Station and the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services.

Tigerlily Foundation to Host 2nd Annual Gala

The Tigerlily Foundation, which is headquartered in Reston, VA, is an organization dedicated to educating and supporting young women affected by breast cancer. The foundation will be hosting their 2nd Annual Gala on September 29, 2010 and the theme is Pink Masquerade Ball. The gala will be held at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel at 1401 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington D.C.

The evening will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will include a cocktail reception, dinner, live and silent auctions, raffles, speeches and entertainment. The keynote speaker and honoree is Rep. Donna Christensen of the United State House of Representatives, D-VI.

Smart Markets to Continue Through October 29

Smart Markets Inc., founded in early 2008 by Jean Janssen, is the newest group of farmer’s markets to the Northern Virginia area. Janssen herself has been a resident of Northern Virginia for 25 years. These markets serve Centreville, Fairfax Corner, Gainesville, Herndon, Oakton and Reston and provide guaranteed producer-only farmers’ markets.

Annual Reston Home Tour Coming Soon

Saturday, October 16th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. marks the 9th Annual Reston Home Tour. This self-guided tour will feature five distinctive private homes and ticket proceeds will benefit the Reston Museum. The tour also showcases The Nature House.

Reston Stream Restoration Exhibit and Walk

This weekend Reston residents and other interested parties will be given a unique opportunity: a chance to tour the timely exhibit on stream restoration with Kelly Petrey of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. Attendees will learn updates on the state of Reston streams and the large renovation program that is now underway to restore these natural resources.

The stream restoration exhibit and walk will be this Saturday, August 7th, at 12 p.m. Guests are invited to the Reston Museum at 1639 Washington Plaza in the Lake Anne Village Historic District at noon to learn about the project and the benefits of stream restoration. Then at 1 p.m. you can join Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. on a field trip to a stream in the Colvin Run watershed of North Reston.
