Dulles Metro Rail Public Discussions

Tonight, September 13, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. a public meeting will be held for community members to discuss the second phase of the Metrorail extension to Dulles International Airport. The meeting tonight will be held at the Sheraton Reston, which is located at 11810 Sunrise Valley Drive in Reston, VA. A second hearing will be held tomorrow, September 14, at the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum in Sterling, VA. Both of these public hearings are being hosted by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Discussions about the future Metro rail stations will be open house-style.

NFL Kickoff Party at American Tap Room

American Tap Room in Reston Town Center is hosting a NFL Kickoff Party tomorrow night, Thursday September 9, at 8:00 p.m. Come watch the Saints take on the Vikings in the first NFL game of the season with multiple flat screen TVS and enjoy food and drink specials! After the game be sure to stick around to enjoy the DJ and dancing.

Reston Community Yard Sale Coming Soon

The Reston Community Yard Sale will take place on Saturday, September 11 at 1930 Isaac Newton Square. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. About 100 different families will be selling items at this event, so it is a great opportunity to find a variety of items! You can sign up to have your own booth for $23 if you are a Reston Association member or $29 for non-members. Or just stop by for some great steals!

Reston's Restaurant Week is an extension of DC’s restaurant week. It started on Friday, August 20 and will run through Sunday, August 29. Enjoy prix-fixe menus at these participating Reston Town Center restaurants:

Cupcake Class at Wildfire

Cupcakes have truly been all the rage. Now you and your kids can learn how to bake, frost, decorate, and devour your very own delicious cupcakes! On Saturday, September 25, Wildfire is hosting a cupcake class for the whole family. WUSA9 Reporter Jessica Doyle is hosting the class with her daughter Sophia along with Wildfire Executive Chef Steven Lukis with his son Spencer.

This hands-on cupcake class will be held at the Wildfire in Tyson’s Galleria in McLean, VA from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $20 per adult and this covers up to 2 kids. Part of the proceeds will go to Food for Others, which is the largest distributor of free food to people in need in the Northern Virginia area.

Get Registered for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

The 2010 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is being held September 18 through September 29. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 1! To be eligible you must be 50 years old by December 31, 2010 and live in a sponsoring jurisdiction, which include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church. $10 includes one event and the following events are open:

Track & field, team line dance, racquetball, ten pin bowling, eight ball pool, Wii bowling, bocce, tennis, table tennis, fencing, golf, shuffleboard, chess, miniature golf, bunco, horseshoes, softball hit & throw, backgammon, scrabble, cribbage, yo-yo tricks, duplicate bridge, swimming, diving, pickleball, men’s basketball,  men’s and women’s free throw basketball

DC Restaurant Week Hits VA Neighborhoods

Luckily DC Restaurant Week is not limited to the District. DC Summer Restaurant Week starts tonight and runs through Sunday, August 22.
