Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides in Reston

Come out to the Reston Town Center this Saturday December 11 between 2:00pm - 7:00 for carriage rides through the center. Rides are $5 per person. Children under 5 ride free. All of the proceeds go to benefit Character Counts! Reston and the rides will pick up on Market Street next to Talbots.

Dominion Virginia Power Weatherization Event Supports Reston Interfaith

Dominion Virginia Power volunteers will make weatherization improvements to seven Four Season transitional townhomes in Herndon and the Embry Rucker Community Shelter (ERCS) in Reston.  Volunteers will make improvements such as attic insulation, duct sealing, window frame sealing, floor-at-wall sealing, replacing door weather strips, insulating switch and receptacle cavities, and replacing old thermostats with new programmable models.  Resources to complete the weatherization are being made possible through support of the Dominion Foundation.

Fairfax - The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is offering a free spay or neuter for the first 100 cats, kittens, dogs or puppies adopted from the shelter during the month of December. The special offer is part of the shelter’s annual Home 4 the Holidays adoption celebration to help homeless animals make their way out of the shelter and into a great new home in time for the holidays.

Leesburg Celebrates Opening of The Cooley Gallery with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 10

From the Town of Leesburg – At 5:45 p.m., on Friday, December 10, 2010, Town of Leesburg officials will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for The Cooley Gallery, located at 12 South King Street in Historic Downtown Leesburg.  Mayor Kristen C. Umstattd will be officiating.

Owned and operated by Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley and his wife Christy, The Cooley Gallery will feature ceramics, painting, photography and artwork in various mediums.  Much of the work featured will be Chris’s own pottery and painting as well as the work of other local artists.

An art major at Utah State and 2004 draft pick of the Washington Redskins, Chris has kept his passion for painting and pottery alive.

DMV Indie Film Festival to Continue Through Weekend

Looking for something new and different to do this weekend? Want to stay out of the cold? Well, last night I attended the DMV Indie Film Showcase, a film festival that highlights some our area’s very own filmmaking talent. The festival opened last night, but it will run through Sunday, December 5.

Come out any night this weekend at 7 PM to the Cinema Arts Theatre in Fairfax to catch several different short films, along with the feature production 6 Nonsmokers. The shorts will definitely get you thinking, encompassing a variety of genres and the comedy 6 Nonsmokers is a guaranteed laugh out loud.

Reston Community Center’s 12th Annual Gifts from the Heart Fine Arts Exhibit

RESTON, VA – Reston Community Center’s 12th Annual Gifts from the HeART Fine Arts Exhibit will be held from November 29 through January 3, 2011 at RCC Lake Anne’s Jo Ann Rose Gallery.  All are invited to a festive opening reception on Saturday, December 4th, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. for holiday refreshments.  Entry fees and ten percent of all sales for this exhibit are donated to Reston Interfaith to continue their important work, including the Embry Rucker Community Shelter, the Laurel Learning Center and their Community Services Outreach, which includes job counseling, emergency food, and youth programs.
