Don't Miss Out On The Biggest Chinese New Year Festival in the Area

Tonight is Chinese New Year's Eve. Tomorrow marks the start of the Year of the Rabbit on the lunar calendar. The Asian Community Service Center is proud to present the 4th Annual Chinese New Year Festival on Saturday, February 12th. The Festival will take place all day long, from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Luther Jackson Middle School in Falls Church, VA. The middle school is located at 3020 Gallows Road. 

The entire school will be filled with Chinese New Year decorations, booths, games, dancing, food, and more. The auditorium, the cafeteria, the gymnasium, and even the hallways will be filled with different cultural activities and decor. Admission is FREE and you will get the chance to try great asian food, watch live performances, see the traditional Chinese New Year Parade, draw prizes, and gain Asian cultural exposure.

On February 7th from 5:30pm-9pm, the Patriots Technology Training Center will host its 2nd annual Bio Medical Competition at the U.S. National Library of Medicine, 8600 Rockville Pike, in Bethesda MD  20894.  Their goal is to encourage students to further their interest in various medical fields.  Please visit their website (www.patriots-ttc.org) to view the 2010 Bio-Medical Competition co-sponsored by The Library of Medicine.

Eight high school and one home school team will present a five-page research paper, brochure, slide show, one-page web site, display board, and an oral presentation on one of the medical careers listed below: 

Public Meeting Scheduled about Closing of Reston East Park and Ride

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 to discuss the upcoming closure of Reston East Park and Ride and the opening of an interim park and ride lot at Sunset Hills Road and Town Center Parkway. 

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn about bus service and parking options.  The meeting will take place:

Want to know more about coyotes and how they may impact Reston?  Spend an evening learning about coyotes in the Washington, D.C. area with Shannon Pederson of the Wildlife Society.  Ms. Pederson has studied coyotes and written about living with coyotes in the metropolitan area.  Get all your questions answered by an expert.

Dentists Brave Icy Waters to Help Raise Money for Children with Life-Threatening Illnesses

Drs. Arshia Shingler and My Tran will be plunging into cold waters for the Virginia Polar Dip in Reston, Va. at the Reston Community Center in Lake Anne on Sat., Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. The Polar Dip will benefit Camp Sunshine, a retreat in Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. All proceeds help send children from the DC area to Camp Sunshine. To date, the Virginia Polar Dip has raised more than $73,000. The 2011 year, our goal is to raise $75,000 which will allow 37 families from the VA/MD/DC area to come to Camp Sunshine.
