FCPS Students Win 59 Regional Awards in Scholastic Writing Competition

Forty-two middle and high school students enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) have won a total of 59 regional awards in the Scholastic Writing Awards competition sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers and administered locally by Writopia Lab. An awards ceremony is planned for Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m. at the Spectrum Theater in Rosslyn.

Of the FCPS winning entries, 4 received Gold Key awards, 20 received Silver Key Awards, and 35 received Honorable Mentions for outstanding work in humor, journalism, personal essays-memoirs, persuasive writing, poetry, short stories, science fiction-fantasy, and writing portfolios. Winners came from Thoreau Middle School; Edison, Fairfax, Falls Church, Herndon, Langley, Madison, Marshall, Oakton, and Woodson High Schools; Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology; and Lake Braddock and Robinson Secondary Schools. Those works that received Gold Key awards will be forwarded to the national level competition.
