LearningRx of Vienna, Va., Reston, Va. Fairfax, Va., Leesburg, Va., and N. Potomac, Md. are collecting toys at their brain-training centers from now through Dec. 24 for the their respective, local Salvation Army facilities. For every five toys that are collected, LearningRx will also donate one of their ‘smart’ brain-building toys to Salvation Army; toys that help build cognitive skills, like memory, auditory, logic, attention and processing speed. Carmello’s of Historic Manassas, Va. is offering a Christmas Eve dinner, Thurs., Dec. 24 from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and New Year’s Eve a la carte dinner on Thurs., Dec. 31 with seatings from 4:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. (Two-hour seatings are booked for parties of two to six people; larger parties have two and a half hour seatings). Complimentary Portuguese sparkling wine is served with all seatings. Late seatings receive party favorites if they stay until midnight. Children 10 and younger can eat free from the kids’ menu. Monza of Historic Manassas will be collecting gently used coats to donate to SERVE in exchange for a $10 Monza or Carmello’s gift card and free hot chocolate and coffee on Sat.,Dec. 5 during the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade. Coat donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Monza at 9405 Battle Street in Old Town Manassas, Va., as well as throughout December to support SERVE of Manassas, Va. They’ll also be accepting new toys for children of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children of Manassas, Va.) in exchange for a $10 Monza/Carmello’s gift card during December. Metropolitan School of the Arts (MSA) of Alexandria and Lorton, Va. will present three, festive holiday performances in December, including:

The Nutcracker on Thurs., Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and Fri., Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., as well as Sat., Dec. 5 at
1 p.m. and 7 p.m., held at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center at 8333 Little River Turnpike in Annandale, Va. Tickets are $27 per adult and $21 for seniors/students at www.metropolitanarts.org.

Reston mother found after fleeing with 6-month-old son


RESTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police have located a 38-year-old mother who fled the Reston area with her six-month old son.

Nely Bonillas de Cordon of Reston was believed to have fled the area on Thursday around 4:30 p.m. with her son Arturo, Fairfax County police said.

Her husband reported them as missing and believes they may be headed to El Salvador. She expressed her desire to take her son there to be with extended family.

Officers located Cordon in the Reston area after being notified by Child Protective Services. She was charged with one count of abduction.

CPS is working on arrangements for the care of the child. Police said he appeared to be unharmed.

It’s report-card time for many students and LearningRx brain training centers of Reston, Va., Fairfax, Va., Leesburg, Va., Vienna, Va., and N. Potomac, Md. are giving hope to kids and teens by offering two free hours of brain training in exchange for less-than-stellar report cards throughout November. For more information, go to www.learningrx.com.

LearningRx of the DC area is offering anyone 18 and younger two hours of free brain training when they bring in a copy of their report card. The interactive and fun brain training exercises strengthen the cognitive skills that students need to learn effectively (attention, memory, processing speed, problem solving, among others). And that means improved mental performance in the classroom, at home, and even on the sports field.

Man wanted for knife attack inside Reston restaurant


RESTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man is wanted after Fairfax County police say he attacked a man with a knife early Sunday morning inside a restaurant in Reston.

At around 1:21 a.m. Sunday, a 24-year-old Vienna man and his 26-year-old girlfriend from Fairfax were at Clyde's of Reston on Market Street when an unknown man began talking with the girlfriend, police said.

The Vienna man got into an argument with the unknown man that police say escalated into a physical altercation. The unknown man then produced a knife and allegedly cut the boyfriend before fleeing.

The unknown man is described as Hispanic, wearing a black jacket, a white shirt and blue jeans.

Police say the boyfriend suffered non-life threatening injuries.
